If you have a propane gas furnace and have had it for a long time, it can have problems soon. Knowing about these problems before they happen will allow you to get the furnace repaired faster, which may help you keep it longer. Keep reading for two common issues you will find with this type of furnace.

Not Heating

If your propane gas furnace is not providing your home with heat, this can be due to many things. First, you need to make sure the setting on the thermostat is set correctly. Also, someone may have turned the heat off on accident when adjusting the thermostat. Make the needed changes and see if your furnace starts heating again for you.

If the problem is not with the thermostat, check the propane valve and make sure it is closed. Keeping it closed is important as this prevents the propane from flowing into your furnace to provide you with heat. If the valve is closed open it up to see if your furnace starts heating.

The problem may also be a bad fuse. If so, you need to replace the fuse. You should not do this on your own but instead, hire a furnace repair company to come to your home and replace the fuse with a new one.

Constantly Turning On and Off

If you notice the furnace is turning on and then turning off much more than it normally does this is a sign that you have a problem. Check the thermostat first to make sure it is set correctly. If so, the problem may be with the air filter. If the air filter is filled up and dirty air cannot flow through it, which causes the furnace to work longer to provide your home with enough heat. Remove the filter and replace it. Write down the number on the filter before you purchase one to ensure you purchase the right type and size.

There could be a bad belt inside the furnace. This belt may be completely broken or may be worn down and damaged. A furnace repair contractor can replace the belt for you to take care of your heating problem.

The blower motor may be bad and will need to be replaced. The motor ports may need lubrication, or the bet may have the wrong tension.

There are more problems you can have with your furnace, such as the fan not running, or the furnace may not turn on at all. The repair contractor can give you more information about this.
